Ryan Keeley Death Tasmania, AU, Talented Player Has Passed Away
It is with great sadness that the club and the wider football community acknowledge Ryan’s passing. He joined Glenorchy Football Club in 2005, making the significant move from Ulverstone to Hobart while pursuing his university studies. It did not take long for him to make his mark, quickly becoming a valued member of the club and earning the Best First Year Player Award.
Ryan went on to play 79 games for Glenorchy, building an impressive record during his time with the club. His football journey included some of Glenorchy’s most memorable successes. He was a member of the 2007 Reserves Premiership team before helping the senior side claim the 2008 Senior Premiership.
His individual ability was also recognised in 2008 when Ryan shared the prestigious Banjo Paterson Best and Fairest Award in a three-way tie. The honour reflected the talent, competitiveness and commitment he brought to the football field. While Ryan’s achievements as a footballer were significant, those who knew him will remember the person behind the player. Away from the field, “Keels” was described as kind, friendly and always smiling. His genuine nature and infectious personality helped him form lasting friendships with teammates and members of the Glenorchy football community.
On the field, Ryan was a fierce competitor who played with determination and energy. His trademark runs streaming forward from the half-back line became a familiar sight to teammates and supporters, creating many memorable moments throughout his playing career. Ryan was more than a talented footballer. He was a cherished friend, teammate and valued member of the Glenorchy community. His passing has left a deep sense of loss among the many people who had the privilege of sharing a football field, dressing room or friendship with him.
On behalf of the New Town & Glenorchy Past Players Association and the Glenorchy District Football Club, heartfelt condolences are extended to Ryan’s family, friends, former teammates and everyone mourning his loss. His football achievements will remain part of the club’s history, while the memories of his kindness, smile, friendship and competitive spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Rest in peace, Keels. You will never be forgotten.
